Are You Inspired In Your Work

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

By CD Mohatta Why do we all work? If it is for money, then does it mean that those who earn enough to last a life time or those who inherit, should do no work? Try to find out around with your friends about why they work and surely few of them will answer - for money. If someone who has enough money decides to do no work, will it make that person happy and contented? We derive satisfaction in life by doing things that we feel are worth while. If we are sure that we have done good work, we feel peace in the heart. It gives us the approval of our ability. Let us find out if we are inspired in and with our work. How to know if we are inspired in what we do? The first question should be - are we made for that work? Does that work fit our abilities and mental makeup? If yes, the first barrier to inspiration in work is broken. For example a person with weak physique will find the work of a sailor very unsuitable. What about enjoyment? Do you enjoy doing your work? Are you happy at the end of the day or tired and irritated? If you enjoy doing your work, no amount of hard work will tire you out totally. Otherwise your inner frustration of doing something that you don’t like doing will tire you out with anger in no time. Do you feel that your work makes other lives better? If some how you can begin getting that feeling, your inspiration in work will rise without any other help. Think of a person, who made a bed especially for a sick person. During a visit to the sick person, the maker is told that the bed has made life much better and how much the patient loves the bed and thanks the maker for that. The person who made that bed will feel extremely satisfied with his/her work after this session. Unfortunately, most of the customer interaction are handled by the marketing department now a days and the people who work to make the product, don’t come in touch with the users. We all feel very satisfied if we feel that our work has made someone feel better. If the marketing person who makes good sales is thanked by the shareholders of the company for multiplying their investment, he/she will be equally happy. the point is - we feel satisfied and inspired if we give joy to other with our work. The last test to find out if you are inspired in your work would be to find out if you show creativity in your work? Those who are inspired show creativity in some area of of their work, because they want to improve the work efficiency. Uninspired souls will only wait for the day to get over while inspired ones always feel good and creative doing their work. If you have found a work that inspires you, you are very lucky, otherwise it is time to find your true vocation and get satisfaction. Frustrated Drug Rep Sues Eli Lilly

Monday, May 26th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Joshua_Daly] Joshua Daly After 18 years of working for the drug maker Eli Lilly, Susan Schaefer LaRose quit her job due to uncompensated long hours of work that invaded weekends and vacations. Shortly after she quit, she decided to sue them for the uncompensated hours of work. Her lawsuit against Eli Lilly is one of many seeking to be paid for overtime work. Mrs. LaRose told Forbes, I was told when I started with Eli Lilly that I was exempt from overtime, I figured they were the large employer and I never thought to question it.” The lawsuits filed against Eli Lilly seek overtime wages dating anywhere from 2 to six years. Other companies that are being affected with similar lawsuits include, Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals Inc., AstraZeneca PLC, Pfizer Inc., Johnson & Johnson, Amgen Inc., Hoffmann-La Roche Inc., GlaxoSmithKline PLC and Bayer AG. Mrs. LaRose claims that work weeks began to lengthen soon after cell phones and email became a everyday use. Mrs. LaRose also told Forbes that Lilly does not allow sales reps to log onto the company’s computer system between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., prime hours for calling doctors, which forces reps to do reports on nights and weekends. Dana Higgins, another plaintiff seeking compensation for unpaid overtime said, What they required of us was unfair, My boss told me that I needed to be engaged in business 24/7. Not all drug reps believe the case is fair for the pharmaceutical companies. Workers that are happy with their jobs argue that the longer hours and more time they put into their jobs, the more money they make negating the need to be compensated for overtime work. Child Safety LATCH System

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

By Milos Pesic Car rides need not be a frightening experience for children. The child safety LATCH system reduces the risks of injury caused by car accidents. This system has been found out to eradicate about 50% of the improper installation associated with child safety car seats. It is ironic to know that while child safety car seats are aimed at keeping the child safe while riding in a vehicle, a good 80% of them are installed incorrectly. This totally defeats the purpose of this safety equipment. One of the main reasons for this is the incompatibility of some vehicles to the child safety seats. This difficulty of setting up the child safety car seat has paved the way for the more effective child safety LATCH system. The Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) system is a much easier way of installing the child safety seats in the vehicle because it eliminates the use of the vehicles seat belt system. The rise in the properly installed child safety car seats will lessen the number of car accident related injuries and deaths. The child safety LATCH system does not require parents to buy another child safety car seat. The system also does not claim to work better than the one that attaches the child safety seat to the vehicles seat belt. However, the child safety LATCH system is undoubtedly an easier and a more secure way of setting up a child car seat. Some parents wonder if they can use both methods in installing their child safety seat. Well-intentioned parents may only be after their childrens protection, but using the seat belt and the child safety LATCH system at the same time is not possible. If parents want to make sure their child is secure once inside the car, they have to choose which method provides the best fit. If they are having a hard time installing the car seat with the cars seat belt, chances are, it doesnt give them the best assurance that their children is safe. Child safety seats that are not manufactured according to the child safety LATCH system may still be used in LATCH-equipped vehicles by attaching it to the vehicles seat belts. But if you insist on getting those LATCH-equipped car safety seats, make sure that you try installing it in your vehicle to see if your find it easier to set up than your old one. The child safety LATCH system does not recommend any specific brand of child safety car seat, nor does it demand you to get a LATCH-equipped seat in place of your old one. The system is merely designed as an alternative for those parents who are thinking of their childrens welfare but are having problems with the old seat belt method. Bad Credit Credit Card - How To Increase Your Credit Score With Credit Cards

Friday, May 9th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Carrie_Reeder]Carrie Reeder Credit cards are often the first step for a consumer to build their credit score. When you make regular payments with a small credit limit, lenders will be more willing to lend you larger amounts. Before you jump out and open an account, make sure you dont have too many credit lines open or otherwise hurt your credit. Pick A Good Card Credit card companies offer several different types of credit cards for consumers. You can find student programs that require no co-signer or income. This is a great offer for your first card, but these cards also have higher rates. You can also find cards with cash back rewards or other incentives. The trade-off are higher rates though. However, you can find no frill cards with low interest rates if you plan to carry a balance. Whichever credit card program you choose, make sure it fits with your financial goals. Start Small When you are building your credit score, you want to start small. Open one account and use it at least once a month to make a purchase. This can be a regular purchase that you have cash to pay for. The point is to use your credit and then repay it. Every time you make a payment, it will show up on your credit report. Lenders will also look at how often you make payments. So using your card once a year and paying off the entire balance that month wont do you much good. Your credit report covers three years worth of payment history, and lenders want to see your payment pattern. Dont max out your card either. Only use a small portion of your credit to show lenders that you dont get yourself into financial binds. Maintain Your Credit Regular payments are only one part of your credit score. You also want to keep your credit in good order. If you have dozens of accounts open, close the ones you dont use. The less open credit you have, the more you will be eligible for, a bonus when buying a home or car. Also be sure to take advantage of your annual free credit report. Look over it to make sure that your credit history is correct. If you find any discrepancies, resolve them with your lender. Brook Trout Tips - How to Find Them, Land Them, and Free Them

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

By Jeffrey Gray Native Brook Trout are one of the most prized denizens of the Eastern forests of the United States. The mere presence of Brook Trout is an indication that a stream or lake is healthy and clean. While Brook Trout are not known for their size, some states, such as Virginia, actively stock a few trophy Brook Trout venues. Other states, such as Maryland, do not actively promote their Brook Trout habitats for fishing nor do much stocking. Maryland does promote one venue, though, the lower Savage River below Savage River Dam in Garrett County. Every state that has Brook Trout has a different set of regulations and fishery guidelines. Its very important to know what your local rules and conditions dictate. Once youve determined that youre heading out to find the Brookies its worth taking some time to understand how they live their lives. Brook Trout need clean, well oxygenated water at an optimal temperature of 53 degrees or colder. As stream conditions change the trout will move up or downstream to find the cooler pools and rapids. For this reason its important to know a few things about the stream in which youre fishing. Streams fed from natural lakes tend to warm up in the summer as warm water flows from the top of the lake. The trout will move downstream to cooler water, coming back in the fall. In the lake itself they will seek deep water, surfacing occasionally to feed. Where there is a dam present the trout will seek cold out-flows from sluice gates. If its a spillway the warm water problem will still apply. Be aware that the trout will move upstream from lakes to cold spring-fed headwaters in the summer, if such an option is available. Brook Trout are voracious feeders and when hungry they will eat just about anything that comes their way. That being said, some conditioned responses still apply. In smaller streams or headwaters they will prefer aquatic insects (nymphs). In this case a sinking fly or lure bounced along the bottom may get them motivated to bite. During hatches its best to try to simulate the current hatch cycle. Other lure options are to dangle small crayfish, beetles, fake minnows, etc. Trout magnets are by far one of the most successful lures you can find for Brook Trout, as is Power Bait. Be aware Brook Trout spawn in the fall with the peak of the spawn occurring in late October to early November. Its important to respect their habitat during this critical time of year. Avoid wading in stream gravel, as this is where the female construct their nests (called redds) and deposit their eggs. As a matter of fact, avoid these areas throughout the Winter until after the frye hatch out in the early spring. Most Brook Trout fisheries are catch and release, a practice I follow religiously. Never land the trout by lifting it out of the water with the fishing line, instead, use a net (cotton, not nylon) if at all possible. If you must land the trout by hand bring it in slowly and cup it with one hand while stabilizing its tail with the other. Make sure to pre-wet your hands so as not to damage its delicate protective coating. A note on hooks: I always make sure to bend down the barbs on my hooks. Barbs dont add appreciably to the ability to catch fish, but do add to the damage of removal. Remove the hook carefully, use hemostats if necessary. If the hook just wont come out then clip it off and let the trout go with it, hell get rid of it eventually. Finally, try not to keep the trout out of the water for more than 45 to 50 seconds. When you place him back revive him by holding him in the water gently until he kicks away with force. This way the trout will continue to grow and flourish and be there for you when you come back next year. As always, leave no trace and if you see litter pick it up. Ending a Relationship

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

By Janet Reiss Are you feeling disillusioned with the person who you thought was the love of your life? Are you stuck in a never-ending maze of negative feelings? Are you afraid to leave your relationship? The answers to these questions may point to being in and wanting to leave a bad relationship. Letting your partner know that you want out is the hardest part once a decision has been made to leave. The fear in facing the truth about your relationship is often what keeps you in a maze of inaction. RECOGNIZING A BAD RELATIONSHIP: If you had a relationship satisfaction meter where would the needle point? On one side the meter indicates your level of satisfaction, compatibility, joy, happiness, focus and future-planning. On the other it registers a sense of hopelessness, anger, despair, and self-doubt. Somewhere in the middle is a feeling of acceptance, approval, things are okay, and peace. If your needle points to the red zone of despair it may be time to think about where you fit in and what you want out of the relationship. If a dead-end is ahead of you, are you willing to sacrifice your sanity and maybe even your life to stay in a bad relationship? DECISION-MAKING: Making the decision to leave takes a lot of guts and soul-searching. The decision will not only have an impact on you and your partner, but also your family and friends. Ending a bad relationship is accepting that there are going to be major changes in your life and that you are ready to face them head-on. How do you make the decision? Take a look at the positive and negative sides of the relationship. Take a piece of paper and draw a line down the center of it. Write the word “negative” on one side and the word “positive” on the other. Now start thinking and writing. This is an exercise in looking at your relationship from your perspective, being brutally honest with yourself. You may feel guilty writing things that you have been thinking about and keeping inside for so long, but do it anyway. Remember, this exercise is for your eyes only, so take your time and try not to censor yourself. When you are done, look at the two sides. They will give you some idea of where you are and where you are headed. BUILDING A SUPPORT SYSTEM: Now that you have examined your true feelings and thoughts about your relationship, you must begin to gather your resources. Take a look at who is on your side, who you can turn to for emotional, physical, or financial help. Finding people who share your problems or have other things in common is important to help you feel supported and not alone. Even if you have felt all alone for many years, you don’t have to feel alone any longer. Join a support group. This will not only help you get out of the house, but will also help you feel like you belong to a group of people who share the same interests and goals. Call on your support group for their caring and concern when you need it the most. Offer your help to others. There is stength in numbers. COMMUNICATING YOUR NEEDS: Let people know how you feel. Try on the words that you want to say to your partner. Look in a mirror and practice. You may be saying things that you have only thought of before. Then try them out on a friend. Practicing saying the words will help you come to terms with their true meaning. When you feel confident that you will be able to speak with your partner and tell him or her what it is that you want, then go ahead and be honest. AFFIRMATIONS: Affirmations are bits of sentences that you create to begin to help you change your beliefs about yourself. Write down words that describe positive aspects of your personality, ie. smart, witty, beautiful, faithful, charming. Then create a sentence starting with the words “I am.” Take your affirmations with you and say them often. The affirmation becomes your mantra and helps you push away all the negative beliefs that you’ve been carrying around. Your self-esteem will increase as your belief system improves and the world will feel like a safer place. Hopefully, through being honest, making the right decision, building a support system, communicating your feelings, and affirming who you are, you will gain the insight, strength, and courage to make a move toward a healthier and more fulfilling life. Ending a relationship is often a painful experience, but it’s also an experience that may bring you personal growth and freedom. JJR/NY ‘06 Janet J.
