Keeping Weight Off is Hard to Do, But the Alternative is Unthinkable

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

By Geoff Morris In America today, one of the most talked about topics is the epidemic proportion of obesity amongst the population, and with it, the actual health of the nation. In CNN Presents, there is even a whole section called ‘Fat Chance’ (the next airing is February 5 at 8 p.m., 11 p.m. ET). http://imnosey.com/fp . Although there is a whole industry dedicated to diet control, weight loss programs, exercise programs, this is really like putting the cart before the horse. We all know how difficult it is to start - let alone maintain - a different, almost alien, style of existence, even though we fully understand the dangers that being overweight will bring us. Heart problems, diabetes, damage to the body joints through carrying excess baggage everywhere, are just a few of the many problems generated let alone the associated millions spent in extra health care repairing this damage. In fact although much aligned for being ‘false’ you very rarely see many successful Hollywood style actors carrying tremendous amounts of fat, unless it is deliberate. Why they should be maligned, it is difficult to know, as they should be treated as role models to many of us. But they don’t just magically get these lean, muscular looking bodies there is a price to pay, and that price is discipline. Discipline not only in their dietary habits, but also in how they ’sculpt’ their bodies. How do you think that actors may appear as skinny runts in one epic film, and then in the next, have a completely different body shape? Contrary to popular belief, it’s not down to the makeup studio, but by darned hard work, and a dedication to meet targets, change habits, and have a goal that they are aiming for, which is usually a monetary one (although egos may have just a little bit of influence here). Whether you are a man or a woman, many of us carry around in our heads, that image of our perfectly shaped body, lean and muscularly toned, and with very little evidence of layers of blubber. It is a fact that every person has a ’six pack’ -it’s just very difficult to see it when the equivalent of a Wal*Mart shopping bag full of sloppy fat effectively smothers it (although normally full of the best value shopping). Unfortunately, unless you are introduced to some kind of disciplined action, this image remains what it is - just an image, and will die with you if you never get out of the upwardly fatty existence you have chosen for yourself. Now, one of the biggest, and most lucrative businesses to be in at the moment would seen to be weight control, and unfortunately, like everything else, the worried would-be weight watcher can lose their shirt by trying this solution, then that solution, then the next best thing solution. Because the one major thing missing in all of these is the discipline, the self control, the monitoring of what is going on. So many people jump from what may well be a good solution to the next as they see no perceptible results. One person who seems to have got this disciple nailed down to a fine art is a chap from the Mid West called Ryan Joyce. Ryan did a lot research on weight lifting and body sculpting some five years ago, and what he found was actually quite obvious. Contrarily to what every fast-buck-company claims about their so-called, “dieting secrets”, “miracle weight loss pills”, “super supplements”, “special issue muscle magazines” and other “schemes”, at this hour the majority of people trying to get fit and build the body of their dreams are simply not getting it done. What was missing was a comprehensive control of what people were doing. They would start off with the best of intentions, but after a couple of weeks with no appreciable success - well- it would be off to the next one. Ryan’s approach was different. He spent a long time creating a solution for his own body, and actually reduced his body fat by over 57% in just over 12 weeks; this was a combination of exercise, diet control, the use of some supplements, and one heck of a lot of discipline. He then tried this program on a number of people, by creating a 12 week day by day diary of events, and found that he could reproduce results on others, as long as they strictly followed his program. OK, his web site has a massive following from natural body builders and fitness models, and aspiring actors who need to have the latest ‘Ripped’ or ‘Shredded’ look. (For those of you not in the know ‘ Ripped’ refers to ripping off the fat and baring the muscles, Shredded refers to the highly defined definitions of major muscle groups like biceps). A lot of the success of this sort of approach is the ‘Peer Pressure’ it invokes. Once you have achieved the body of your dreams, you are not going to want to fill it up with cheap processed and fried food any more. And we all know that peer pressure is far more powerful than any Doctors warning about the danger we face while wobbling around with our fatty, cholesterol clogged arteries, with undue weight loads on our joints and backs. So ‘Get Ripped’, or ‘Get Shredded’, or whatever term you want to use - but turn your body back into the temple it is, and give it your full respect. You only ever have one, and you know what happens to buildings that get neglected over the years. Copyright 2006 Geoff Morris Geoff Morris has built up a multi-million dollar property portfolio, (http://propertyprofits4u.com)and has now turned his attention to personal fitness by taking over the site made famous by Ryan Joyce. How To Lose Belly Fat Fast And Lose Love Handles Fast

Monday, November 26th, 2007

By Chris Chew As we age, our metabolism starts to slow down and we start to gain fat in all the wrong places. To make matters worse, it is known that the older we get,the more sedentary our lifestyle will be. This will be translated to less fat getting burnt off and more fat being acccumulated. For men, fat is often gained around the belly. If you are lucky, only your waistline will bulge which is commonly being referred to as love handles. But for most of us, fat will build up on the tummy or what is commonly called, belly fat. The ladies tend to accumulate fat around the thigh and butt. That is not to say they will not have belly fat or love handles. In fact, women have it worse than men and are more inclined to gain fat all over. All of us want to own an attractive flat belly and a slim waistline. We will not only look attractive, we will also have less risk to fat related diseases such as heart attacks, strokes and other medical complications. So how do we get rid of belly fat and love handles fast? First, let the truth be out. There is no such thing as spot reduction short of invasive medical procedures such as mesotherapy which actually inject drugs into your fat to supposedly melt them away. This treatment still has its controversy at the time of this writing. The other is liposuction. A very excruciatingly painful and expensive medical procedure. But do these procedures as well as others such as body wraps, slimming pills, diets etc keep your waistline slim and belly fat at bay? Well, perhaps initially, but to keep fat off permanently, they are questionable unless you keep poppng pills or on a diet for the rest of your life. To keep belly fat and your love handle off permenantly, you will need to incoporate regular cardio exercises, weight training and a healthy eating habit into your life style. No starvation diet is required. Cardio exercises will burn fat fast. Weight training which will build you some muscles will also burn body fat. The added advantage is that when you pack on more muscles, your metabolism skyrockets and you burn fat round the clock, not just your belly fat and love handle but body fat from all over you. You will also have the benefit of owning an attractive flat belly and a slim waistline with beautiful muscle tone and that fabulous six pack abs for the guys. Added to your healthy eating habit such as avoiding too much dietary fat, sugar, simple carbohyrate, you will not only lose your belly fat and love handle, you will lose them forever. And if you have other fat deposit in other parts of your body, the same routine will also burn away those fat fast too. So the if you want to own an attractive flat belly and a slim waist line fast, add cardio and weight exercises along with a healthy eating habit. Then watch the massive improvement to your health and fitness and watch your belly fat and love handle melt away quickly. Well, it may take some effort getting used to the new routine at first but when you start to see your belly fat and love handle melting away and when you are forced to change you wardrobe because of your new slim waistline, you will enjoy and appreciate your new healthy lifestyle and attractive body. Should Relationships Be Reciprocal?

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By Stephanie Manley Have you ever had a one-sided relationship with someone? Have you ever wondered what your role with another person was? Sometimes having the friend that only speaks about themselves, their interests, or what is important leaves you to feeling drained. What do you do? What do you give up to be involved with such a person? Friendships, as well as romantic relationships are all about being there for another person. Sometimes they are there for you, sometimes you are their support system. What do you do when you realize that you are the one giving, and they are the one taking all of the time? It takes so much away from any person to constantly give. Now you have some options. You can continue to be a giving person, and continue to stay in the role that you are in. While it may be the easiest, it may not be best choice for you. We all have breaking points, and it is difficult to allow someone to push you to that limit all of the time. If you have a point of stress in your life you can’t fix, or you can’t eliminate it may eventually drag you down. Another choice is to confront the person. You can do it in a nice, and loving way. Telling this person what you are sensing may make a change in their actions. You can do this in a humorous way, a serious way, or an unemotional way. You are doing yourself a huge favor by letting that person know, continuing the relationship is difficult for you. By telling someone how you feel, puts the problem back on the other person. So the next time they call, or stop by for a chat, you can end the conversation without the guilt if and when they start their one-sided conversation. Your next option if great if you don’t want the confrontation. Start to scale back on your time involved with the other person. Simply cut phone conversations short, being busy when they need you. You can be less responsive when they talk, most people will get the hint. One thing I have noticed is that you have to make an active choice when dealing with these people when they become emotional leeches. You need to be true to yourself. If you need to find another friend, while not easy, it is something you should do. If the person just let the friendship/relationship get out of balance, and they are a good person, they will put the relationship right. Migraine Headaches: Are Pain-Killing Drugs Worth the Risk?

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Dr._Larry_A._Johnson,_D.C.] Dr. Larry A. Johnson, D.C. All drugs are dangerous. Before a person suffering with a migraine headache takes an over-the-counter medication they should be asking the question “Is the possible benefit worth the risk of taking that drug?” William Osler, M.D. once said “The person who takes medicine must recover twice; once from the disease and once from the medicine.” Sadly, this can be all too true. Dr. William Bennett, head of nephrology at Oregon Health Sciences University, estimates that over-the-counter painkillers are responsible for as many as 20% of the 125,000 cases of end-stage kidney disease in the United States. Some medications have side effects that can be more serious than the painful migraine headaches themselves. Aspirin can cause internal hemorrhaging, or bleeding in the stomach. According to the Dec. 1996 issue of Health News and Views taking Tylenol once every 4 days increases the chance of liver damage by more than 400%. The main pain-relief ingredient in Tylenol is acetaminophen which has been shown to cause liver disease. “Tylenol,” as reported in the January 1998 issue of Forbes magazine, “can be very dangerous in doses not much greater” than the recommended dose. In 1989, Lacy Keele, a 5-year-old, took four extra strength tablets in one day, or twice what a child should receive. The overdose destroyed Lacy’s liver. Within a week she was dead. A jury found Tylenol to be a cause in her death. There have been hundreds of fatalities and serious liver injuries attributed to acetaminophen, Tylenol’s active ingredient, since Lacy’s death. The biggest reason for these deaths is because people “tend to use Tylenol in a casual fashion.” Think about it: You have a migraine headache so you take a few pills. The migraine doesn’t go away so you take a few more. The difference between a proper dose and an overdose is so small that dangerous amounts can easily be ingested accidentally. “No other over-the-counter drug has a more narrow range between therapy and toxicity than acetaminophen,” says Dr. William Lee, a professor of internal medicine at the University of Texas’ Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. L.F. Kebler, M.D. once said “Why should a patient swallow a poison because he is ill, or take that which would make a well man sick?” And O.W. Holmes, M.D., Professor of Medicine at Harvard University said “If all the medicine in the world were thrown into the sea, it would be bad for the fish and good for humanity.” In the September 29, 1996 issue of the Los Angeles Times Magazine it makes it known that Ibuprofen kills thousands every year. Ibuprofen, the active ingredient in many pain relievers, including Advil, Motrin IB, and Nuprin, is known as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). People that take NSAIDs like ibuprofen regularly to ease their chronic migraine headaches are prone to gastric (stomach) disorders. Dr. James F. Fries, a leading arthritis expert and professor of medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine, says “there’s an epidemic of adverse drug reactions to NSAIDs. The FDA believes anywhere from 10,000 to 20,000 deaths each year are the result of severe bleeding caused by NSAIDs. It’s a big problem.” When taking medication to relieve migraine headaches it’s always a good idea to read the label carefully. If you decide to take pain-killing medications for your migraine headaches be sure to follow the directions. Using common sense can reduce your chances of experiencing adverse reactions. Dr. Larry A. Johnson, D.C. has practiced chiropractic for 25 years and has treated many patients with [http://www.soothe-a-ciser.com] migraine headaches. Why You Should Settle for A Frog Fountain

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

By Mayoor Patel The natural habitat of a frog is usually next to some pond or anywhere there is usually a good supply of water. Because of this they make ideal decorations for gardens that have a pond. Frog fountains are an excellent choice and are usually seen outdoors although they have also been seen indoors in some homes which is usually a rare treat. A frog fountain is one of the premier garden furnishings, and really raise the elegance and quality of landscape your garden needs to be a cut above th rest. They are usually meticulously crafted from a wide variety of materials, usually stone. Frog fountains are usually made attractive so that they catch an onlooker or visitor that may happen to be at your home. The fountains have the visual ability to completely transform your pool into a fairly tale scene from a favorite children’s book or even if you want to add a bit of mystery in your garden. There are also frog fountain solar kits. These mostly work the same way as other solar kits. They are installed quite easily as well. These kits may come in pure metal form and would have panels that collect energy from the sun. This enables the fountain to work all throughout the day, without the need for electricity. There are large stone frog fountains which need to be professionally fitted. They come in several heavy parts and will probably need to be assembled by a builder or similar. You will need to be sure of where you want to place the frog fountain and clear an area so that it can fit right in without any worry, so be sure to take plenty of measurements before you buy, as you want to be sure there is enough space in your garden and also so that it doesn’t take up more room than necessary. These types of frog fountain are available online or from your local garden centre. Pop down and see what would look good in your garden. You will be surprised to see there is something for everyone and a range of models to suit even the pickiest of garden fanatics. Graduating With A Plan of Action

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

By Ann Baehr Congratulations, youve just graduated with a degree in your chosen field. So whats your next step going to be to launch your long-anticipated career? Like a young racehorse at the starting gate, you have tons of energy and determination, and are anxious to get out there and seize new career opportunities. But are you ready? Do you know what you need to do? Do you have a plan of action to turn those opportunities into a reality? If you dont, you will need to get one. Im sure youve heard the old adage that the quickest route from point A to point B is a straight line. Well, launching your career is no different in terms of setting your job search goals and carrying them out diligently and methodically You might have a few corners to navigate, but you should do your best to avoid deviating from your goal as much as possible. One of the first things you need to decide is what type of job interests you the most. Depending on what your degree is, there might be many positions in your field to consider. For example, if you are a graduate nurse you can work in a hospital, clinic, nursing home, childcare center, school, private practice, or field setting. Then, within those settings you can work within various units such as medical-surgical, pediatrics, and maternity. Then there are transitional opportunities. Lets say you tried your hand at nursing and realized it was not what you expected. You can always consider pharmaceutical sales as a new career. Some fields, such as business management, are even more flexible. The key is to decide which direction you are headed towards and learn as much about that field as you possible can. Okay, you hate to admit it, but you spent all of that time and money, but youre still not sure what you want to do. You have an idea about what you might want to do, but its just not clear yet. None of the possibilities youve explored get you excited. In fact, youre feeling downright frustrated and depressed. Dont worry. It really isnt that bad. Keep in mind that you dont have to start at the top, and dont have to commit yourself to an employer. So dont put so much pressure on yourself. Maybe you just need to get your foot in the door somewhere to test the waters before you decide to go full steam ahead. You might even want to spend the first year to discover what it is that you really want to do. That way your mind will be open to possibilities and you will have a positive attitude. Just dont waste time. Set weekly goals. Use that year to WORK at finding out what you want to do. Then prepare to do it and do it well. If you want to explore your career without the assistance of a job coach or career counselor, a good way to start is to conduct some independent research. Lets assume your degree in is law enforcement or criminal justice. You will need to decide if you want to work in corporate security or private investigation. But how do you decide? Well, if your colleges career center cannot provide you with specific information, visit Occupational Outlook Handbook online (http://www.bls.gov/oco/) to get an overview of various positions in your field. Join industry specific chat rooms to see what everyone is talking about. Go to the websites of various companies. Get involved in conversations. Ask lots of questions. Get advice from friends, family members, and neighbors. Ask them what they do and how they got started. If you are not sure if a particular area of your industry is right for you, call or write professionals already in positions of interest to request an information interview. An information interview will allow you the opportunity to question a professional about the nature and requirements of a position. Some people will not be available, whereas other people will welcome the opportunity to give you fifteen minutes of their time. If someone avoids you, dont take it personally. Just move on to the next possible contact. Once you make a connection, you will need to be polite, organized, and demonstrate exceptional professionalism and communication skills. During your information interview, remember to take detailed notes. When you are done, thank them wholeheartedly for their time. Be sure to get their full name and contact information so you can send them a follow-up thank you letter. They might even have an opening, so be sure to make a good impression. Once you have narrowed it down, have your rsum developed professionally and post it on major job boards, such as monster.com, careerbuilder.com, and hotjobs.com to see what contacts can be made. While you are there, search job openings to glean what the job descriptions are so you can see what will be expected of you. Your rsum writer will probably want you to do that anyway so they can get a good idea of the jobs you are interested in to ensure your rsum is very targeted. Be proactive and tell your rsum writer that you have done that and would like to share that information with them. Okay, so now you know what you want to do and you have a great rsum and cover letter. Now what? Youve probably heard how important networking is that its not what you know but who you know. Well, thats not always the case; but knowing the right person sure cant hurt. With that in mind, let everyone you come in contact with know you are looking for a job. Be sure to keep your rsum updated and in your car (protected from spills and creasing) so you can hand them out at a moments notice. Join an organization to become acquainted with people in your industry, attend career fairs, become affiliated with recruiters, and research companies online (post your rsum at their websites), at the library, and even in the yellow pages to get leads to mail your rsum and cover letter. This last approach is a great strategy. Lets say you recently graduated with your Masters in Social Work. You can open your yellow pages to Adoption Agencies to acquire the mailing addresses of several social service agencies. Be sure to call the receptionist first to request the proper name, title, and department of the contact to send your rsum and cover letter. Other strategies include creating a web rsum so people can view your formatted, interactive resume online. If you dont know how to do this, research how or hire someone to do it for you. Be sure to have business cards made and add your web rsum address to it! Another great way to get started is to temp for a while. If you do decide to temp, be selective. You should only work for the best companies in your field to get the very best experience possible. It is also a great way to prove yourself as a favorable candidate for a permanent position. Dont temp for too long because it might cause a potential employer to wonder why you havent secured a permanent position for a certain length of time. If during an interview you are asked why you temped, confidently state that you chose to temp to gain well-rounded experience in your field. Dont apologize for anything! No matter what your plan of action is, be sure to keep organized notes and track every move you make. Prepare a list of names, company names, addresses, telephone numbers, fax numbers, email addresses, and website addresses. Keep the list near the phone of every company you sent your rsum and cover letter. That way you will know whom you are speaking with when they call to extend an initial or follow up interview. This is especially important if you are going on several interviews. If you are not organized, you will get confused and seem unprofessional. You will want to make a great first impression from the very beginning, starting with a great rsum and cover letter. If you have your baby sisters cute little voice or a musical greeting on your answering machine, replace it with a professional message that says, You have reached John Smith at 555-5555. I am not available at this time. Please leave your name and reason for calling. I will return your call as soon as possible. Have a great day! If your email address is bowlingkingpin@aol.com, be sure to change it to JSmith1234@aol.com. If you are on the road all of the time, or if members of your family do not speak English, get a cell phone so you can be reached anytime, anywhere. List that number as your only number without the word cell listed on your rsum. If you list both your home number and your cell number, then indicate which number is your home number and which number is your cell number. They will probably call your home number first. If you have a lot of friends who call you on your cell, be on guard to answer your cell phone professionally. If you are going on an interview, leave your cell phone in your glove compartment. You dont want your cell phone to ring in the middle of the interview. Be prepared and on time for the interview, if not early. Make sure you have several outfits to wear to go on several interviews in a weeks time so you dont stress. Make sure you dress appropriately for your interview. You cant go wrong if you are conservative. If it is a creative industry, you can dress with more flair or even casual, but dont dress too crazy. Have extra rsums handy (dont bring your cover letter) to give to the hiring manager so he/she can distribute them to other managers without having to make copies. Practice your interviewing technique. Ask a friend to role-play with you. Get a book with commonly asked interview questions. In addition to learning what to say, you need to learn what not to say and what not to do. Send out thank you letters within 24-hours that mention something important discussed in the interview keeping the position in mind at all times and reiterating your strengths. Above all, be professional in behavior and appearance, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, organized, interested in the company and position (have about ten questions to ask them that have nothing to do with you), and try your best to be interesting when you talk about your experiences, regardless how limited they may be. If you are nervous, keep in mind that you are interviewing them, too. You dont want to work for just anyone, do you? Be sure to convey that. You dont have to be arrogant about it, but you should come across as a commodity, not as a desperate, nervous job seeker. If you think like that, your confidence will shine through naturally because you will feel good about yourself and will be ready for anything! Before long, youll be launching your career. Good luck! Do You Want More Dates?

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

By Tonja Weimer Would you like to have more dates and less sitting at home? Do you want to go out more often so you feel you have a wider choice of who you want for a mate? Do you know the way to accomplish this? There are definite strategies and plans to have more dates, more choices, and more fun. Many of these tips were discovered as the steps to a successful business and can be applied to being successful in getting more eligible people to ask you out. Here are six steps to get more dates: * What is your goal? Do you have a clearly defined goal of attracting more people into your life? If not, why not? Pinpoint the reason you feel you are not dating and start working toward satisfying your need. Do you need to get your financial house in order? Do you need to get to the gym, exercise, and get yourself in shape? Do you need a makeover? Or do you lack confidence? Ask yourself what is holding you back and take steps to remedy it. Help is there for you if you ask for it. *What are your plans to get more dates? Not much happens in life unless you do something about it. Do you have some strategies for meeting people? Or have you tried going out a couple of times, not had any luck, and have given up? Now is the time to take out your calendar, make plans with some of your friends to go places this month, call people and tell them you would like to meet someone, and look into an Internet dating service. Do something. *Do you keep your word with yourself and others? Be sure you are accountable to someone. That is why it is important to make plans with friends to go places. Tell your best friend what you are going to do to meet future dates and then be accountable to them for doing it. If you don’t know how to be accountable to a friend or family member around your plans and promises to meet people, hire a coach. *Do you believe you will never meet someone wonderful for you? Check your beliefs. If you think you can’t do something, you won’t. Replace your negative thoughts with words of encouragement. If you do it often enough, you will start to believe your new voice. *Do you have a support system in place? You need allies in your corner, cheering you on, urging you out to meet people. Learn to start conversations when you are meeting new people, build friendships, be generous with those you care about, and take good care of yourself at all times. *Do you applaud your own efforts? Often, when we are trying to learn new skills and confidence, if we don’t perform the way we think we should, we are hard on ourselves. Every time you make an effort to go places and reach out to people, no matter how it turns out, give yourself a pat on the back for trying. There are all kinds of interesting, fabulous, wonderful people out there for you to meet. Do you want more dates? If you do, think about the above. Dry Fly Techniques

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

By Brett Fogle Dry fly angling is at the top of any fly fishermans list of funfishing. The visual dry fly catch continues to excite manyanglers as the best way to angle the fly. Many anglers try tokeep themselves busy with various fly tying techniques as well asnymphing techniques. We will discuss several of those techniquesbelow, but for now we will start with dry fly techniques. To watch the fly drift free, then the flash of a trout, followedby your fly rod bend - thid is what most of us are after. Toexperience it, fly fishermen will go to measures beyond mostother fishermen. I would say that 30% of fly fishing angling timeis spent fishing a dry fly. My favorite fly fishing memories haveincluded big fish taken on a dry fly. Sure, dredging a nymph andhooking an old Brown or a huge River Rainbow is satisfying, butIll take a brookie on a dry fly, at any size, on any day. When I go to a stream, new or old, I put on a nymph first. Thereare exceptions (fish rising everywhere to an obvious hatch) thatmake me poke around in my compartment box, but the indicator andnymph are my first choice. I can catch fish while I am observingwhat is going on in the stream. When I have things figured out, then I go to the dry fly. This is where I have the most fun. Equipment is important! Try to use as long a fly rod as you canget away with. Some anglers use a 5′6″ fly rod for dry flyfishing, but generally, a longer rod eight feet or longer isdesirable. A medium action or faster is desirable to have thereaction and hook setting speed that dry fly angling sometimestakes. It is also best to use large arbor reels. A large arbor keeps afly line supple, without curls from a tight diameter storage. Afine drag system, or none at all, in important to protect thefine tippet from breaking when a fish runs. A fly rod must alsobalance. The reel weight must make the fly rod at the point whereyour index finger rests on the cork grip “balance.” That would bewhere the fly rod hangs level on the balance of your index fingeron the cork. This makes the feel of the cast second nature. Youwill get to a level where casting becomes second nature, you willfeel the fly trailing on your leader, the rod tip bending, andthe fly line loop during your cast like you feel the tracking ofyour wheels on the highway while you are driving. Understanding these important aspects of fly fishing is notdifficult, it just takes some experience. You will soon get to apoint where you understand each and every aspect of yourequipment and fishing technique in focused detail. Especially ifyou continue to go after trout with a fly rod, particularly a dryfly rod. Just remember to balance your equipment. You will seethe merit of that as you fish! Fly line choices come into play when thinking about dry flyequipment. I like fly line colors in gray, green or white. Colorsother than this are used to catch fishermen at the fly shopcounter. At fly line weights less than 4-weights, double tapersor weight forwards, you will find you will have a very hard timetelling the difference. A double taper will last twice as longbecause you can turn the fly line around when it is worn. But Iseem to gravitate toward a weight forward. If you like to “shoot”casts, the weight forward seems to work better. If you want, you can experiment with mini shooting heads andcustom made lines for your dry fly fishing pursuits. Loop offersmany different fly lines available for experimentation.Leaders are an important aspect of dry fly fishing. Many anglerslike to use Rio leaders, which are very supple, yet the buttthrough midsection is stiff enough to make the leader straighten,or “turn over.” For small streams, a 9 foot leader in 6x isperfect. If you need to step down to 7x, a length of tippet canbe added. _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/ Who else wants to pull in a bounty of big fish - Every time! California Lemon Law FAQs

Monday, November 19th, 2007

By Richard Romando The most important question in relation to the California Lemon Law is whether the vehicle or the product in question is qualified as a “lemon.” The details to be considered when judging whether a vehicle or commodity is a lemon are the warranty period, the type of defects and the number of repair attempts. Another important query is on the number of attempts the manufacturer requires to make before the vehicle can be called a “lemon.” Myths regarding the warranty period are very common and dealers and manufacturers have made it more confusing by spreading wrong information on the Internet. The new amended law regarding the time and mileage of the vehicle states 18000 miles or eighteen months. Another important question is whether all consumer goods qualify under this law. It can be sometimes very confusing as to what qualifies as a consumer commodity. The other query is whether the arbitration program will completely satisfy the owner and the reimbursement will be equal to the amount that the court decides. The definition of the term “attempt” is also important and taking the vehicle to the dealer or manufacturer for repairs is termed as an attempt, even if the dealer does not perform any changes or repairs on the vehicle or the product. Another regular query is about vehicles or products bought “as-is.” This indicates that the buyer knew the inherent defects in the product and still invested in the vehicle or product. This law is known as the “caveat emptor” law, literally meaning “buyer beware.” It states that any product that has a defect about which the buyer is warned before the purchase, cannot qualify for the lemon law. Questions regarding the reimbursement of expenses are necessary because the cost of repairing a vehicle is in no way negligible. Undergraduate Degrees Value Decreasing: What To Do

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

By Amber C. Smith There was a time, not so long ago, when having a bachelor’s degree meant that you could go out and get the highest paying job in your chosen profession. You would have no problem securing a job, and you wouldn’t need any more higher education. Those days are long past. With more people staying in school longer, the job field is becoming more competitive. These days, in order to make the cut, you may need a Masters degree or even a doctorate to make the cut. A Masters degree can make a $10,000 or more difference in pay in some fields. Learn about Your Profession Before getting a Masters degree, learn the ins and outs of the profession. Sometimes a Masters degree can hurt you. For instance, although most schools would prefer employees with a Masters degree, many of them simply can’t afford the raise in pay. Education is certainly the exception to the rule, but the situation is something to consider. Company Pays For It If you’re lucky, you can get your current company to pay for your Masters degree. There is a two-fold advantage to this situation. First, you won’t have any debt, and second, they’ll be giving you a raise after you reach your higher education level. Expanding Your Options Undergraduate degrees are usually general in nature while Masters degrees are more specific. At the same time, a Masters degree can greatly expand your options. Some companies only want to hire individuals with higher level degrees, so you can now be in the running for those jobs as well. Also, if you decide to change careers, you’ll be in the perfect position to get a Masters degree to prepare you for your career change. Prestige Having a Masters degree will also confer more prestige on you. Although this isn’t a good reason to get a Masters degree in itself, if you are planning to start your own business or already run your own business, the extra letters behind your name can increase your credibility. Higher Pay Most companies give a significant salary increase to employees who have a higher degree. If you are considering expanding your family or making a big purchase, you might want to invest in a Masters first so that your higher pay level can help pay off your new expense.
