Creeping Someone Out 101 (Part Two)

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

By Scot McKay Last time we defined what giving someone “The Creeps” was really all about, and outlined the first six of a “dirty dozen” ways to give someone the “heebie-jeebies”. The first six talked primarily about actions and appearance. This time we’re going to focus on the words you use while you are on a date. It is my most sincere hope that all of you who are reading can find more productive things to talk about on a first date than what is covered below. Actually, ANYTHING would be better! 1) Describing what or who you “hate” in lurid detail I suppose a rant about negative complainers is somewhat hypocritical, right? Chalk it up to making a point and forgive me. After all, I love everyone. Nonetheless, people who go on and on about who they hold grudges against, stuff that really peeves them, and the like end up making their dates’ skin crawl. It’s just an uncomfortable feeling to hang out with someone who is such a downer. And you can’t help but think how much of a drag it would be to get on this person’s bad side, although you would think that has to be inevitable eventually. 2) Talking about your mother too much It’s pretty boring when women do this on dates, but if a man does it he at best looks like a “mama’s boy”. At worst he looks like Norman Bates. Ouch. Family ties are always good, but leave Mom at home on first dates. Ironically enough, it’s a lot easier for both genders to talk about their Dads and look good. Strange, huh? 3) Talking about medical problems Talking about doctor’s visits, health problems, what hurts and how sick you got a week ago is a bummer. Some of the more mature adults who are in the dating world are the ones who report this happening the most. That doesn’t mean that it’s unheard of in the younger crowd. I personally went on a first date once where the woman went on and on over dinner–about having chronic kidney stones. She talked about how painful it was, and how she had to pass one the size of a pea. While still talking, she produced a medicine vial, which I assumed contained her meds. How wrong I was. She poured out the actual kidney stones into her hand! I can’t really describe the feeling I had at that moment. “Creeped out” comes pretty darned close. 4) Abrupt motions and/or mood changes Have you ever been around someone who is mellow and laid back, and all of the sudden they “wake up” or something and become really animated? If you have, you realize how startling and freaky it can be. Even stranger is when someone goes from being calm and pleasant to being excitable and angry virtually on the fly. That kind of “Jekyll And Hyde” stuff will strongly encourage dates to run away. 5) Blatant contradictions in behavior or words If someone says he or she is a certain way and then behaves in an opposite manner, it confuses others and likely caused them to be very suspect of his or her intentions. Personal integrity may even be questioned. Consistency is always a plus when dating. For example, if you say you “don’t drink”, it’s not a good idea to drain six martinis and get wasted a few hours later. This causes a date to wonder exactly who it is he or she is hanging out withwhich is an unsettling feeling. 6) Going on and on about exes-especially creepy ones We all know that it’s a bad idea to talk about exes on first dates. But that doesn’t stop people. It’s especially troublesome, however, to hear about having been abused, stalked or other wise freaked out by someone in the past. In fact, it creeps out the person who has to endure hearing about it. 7) *BONUS* Asking inappropriate questions We have all been on our fair share of “interview dates”. Those aren’t fun. But as soon someone starts asking particularly inappropriate questions of someone he or she barely knows, things go south particularly quickly. Nothing puts ants in your date’s pants like being put on the spot, let alone when the expected answer involves information of an entirely too personal nature. So there you have it, the second half of the “dirty dozen”. Make it a “baker’s dirty dozen”. If you are like me, reading the two articles in this series back-to-back in and of itself is enough to make me want to scrub my hands with sandpaper and spray “Raid” in my boxers. Seriously though, I realize this all takes a lot of courage to even consider, but it’s worth doing so. WHOA yeah, is it worth doing so-that’s an understatement! Just looking at the list we just covered drives home the point of how truly easy it is to blow a first date. It’s disarmingly easy to make a little blunder that kills attraction, and the truth is we’ve all been guilty on rare occasions. If there are “recurring difficulties” however, I can’t think of a bigger issue tied to derailing your entire dating life than this one. Deserving what you want dictates “creep factor elimination” as a prerequisite. Copyright (c) 2006 X & Y Communications Want to hear more? Marketing Tips to Attract More Prospects for Increase Sales

Friday, September 14th, 2007

By Leanne Hoagland-Smith Marketing is the ability to attract prospects to your front door. Unfortunately, many in business confuse marketing skills with selling skills within what is called the sales process. The following 5 marketing tips may help you begin to not only distinguish yourself from others, but actually secure that first appointment, that leads to that second one and that concludes in increase sales. Tip #1: Effective marketing is about identifying the pain within your prospect’s current situation. You must tell them what is not working. To do this requires a good understanding of business performance and may be industry specific. So take the time to research your prospects. Also, the prospects must acknowledge the pain. This usually happens by your observations of all those non-verbal behaviors or cues. Tip #2: Describe how it could be. You must tell them a solution that would stop their pain. Ask open-ended questions to show them the possibilities when the right solution is presented. Paint a very vivid picture with your words. Tip #3: Determine why they have not solved this problem. Again, by asking open-ended questions you will learn the how come. Usually, if you are an expert in your profession, you will already know why. Tip #4: Provide a proven approach. What does the prospect need to do to solve this pain? Here you subtly share your approach to curing this pain. Again observing body language and understanding neuro-linguistic programming will help you. Tip #5: Offer a call to action. Now is your time to show that you can help them. The use of testimonials is a great tactic during this interaction along with a complimentary or free offer. These 5 simple tips may help you increase sales and keep your funnel full of prospects. Remember, these tips should be aligned to marketing plan within your strategic plan so that you actions are always 100% pointed toward your desired results. The Importance Of Wedding Songs

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

By Vicki Churchill If you go back to the early wedding of the 16th century the wedding songs played an integral part of the ceremony. The tradition was for the bride to be led down the alter by her farther accompanied by the wedding songs of their choice usually something slow and fairly quiet. After the vows had been taken she then walked back down the aisle with her new husband accompanied by a much livelier tune signifying the happiness of the occasion. So what wedding songs to choose? This can be a difficult task as there is so much out there to choose from. Are you having a traditional or a contemporary wedding? Depending on the type of wedding you are having will probably reflect the type of music that you will have. The wedding songs that you will choose will affect the whole mood of the celebrations and therefore need careful thought. If it is to be a traditional type of wedding then maybe you will opt for the more traditional types of wedding songs e.g. Wedding March by Mendelssohn’s and the ever popular Bridal Chorus by Wagner better known as here comes the Bride. Maybe you are having a traditional wedding but do not want to stick to the traditional wedding songs, by choosing different ones you will make your wedding celebration much more memorable to your guests. Are there any contemporary or classical pieces of music that you and you partner find memorable to you both? If so maybe you could have these as your wedding songs which will serve as a reminder of you very special day. How about hiring a vocalist or a musician to play your wedding songs live, this would certainly change the whole mood of the occasion. However you would need to check with your church venue etc that they would be happy with this arrangement. The most important thing to remember when choosing your wedding songs is to make it personal to you and your partner. Do not try to please your guests, this is your day and the wedding songs are being played for you so make sure they are what you want After you have chosen the song you wish to be played when walking down the isle you need to work out the songs you would like played at your wedding reception. The First dance in always important as this is where the newly married bride and groom dance together in front of the guests. Usually the bride and groom will use a song that is special to them or has some memories associated with for the first dance. Personal Injury Claim - Win Without A Doubt!

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

By Mumtaz Shah Everyone likes winning! If you win by an inch or a mile, winning is winning! Now winning at personal injury is a different ball game altogether. Do you want to claim compensation in direct result of an accident or injury? Okay, that’s fine go ahead, you deserve it! Life Before A Personal Injury Claim I bet it was awesome… You were having the time of your life. Winning at everything, football, cricket, racing, baseball and even at work. Met targets, been promoted and of the likes. You were at the top of Mount Everest, going crazy like Rocky at the top of the stadium. You’ve heard about accident injury claims and injury compensation claims meaning all the same thing. But never had the pleasure of feeling it and you DON’T want to. You think it can’t be that bad except when you get involved in a car accident. Those I believe are painful! Anyway reaching the pinnacle of success couldn’t get any better. Then one day an accident injury occurs… to YOU! Your life falls apart. You can’t win a single thing! Not even a date. You become a goof in the eyes of other people. You use to go out every Friday night. But now thanks to the accident injury, your bed is the only Friday night entertainment… well for the time being. Life During An Injury Or Injury Claim You feel like crap. PERIOD! You were the first person everyone called when there was something going on everyday. You were like an operator, call after call after call. You had to specifically buy a phone that had a battery life for enough talk time in a whole day. Now you don’t even charge it for days and still your battery’s full! The Picture There’s nothing much you can do, beside catch up on films you kept thinking you’d get round to one day. Now you can watch movies all day or keep up to date with the news. What’s happening around the world? Before you hear about an accident and think how awful. But now you have absolute sincere remorse for those people in such situations. Just like Hurricane Katrina. How terrible is that? The Feeling You feel for other people, their losses, regardless how large or small. Considering the best you can do is watch TV, soap after soap, movies after movie. There’s one thing you should never watch are the music channels! These are happy, joyful 5 minute clips of people dancing, clapping, rocking their body and of the likes. If after a couple of clips your favourite tune comes on. You wanna move. You’ll remember how it felt to be in such a happy position, singing and dancing. You forget about your injury and move… ‘OUCH!’ You remember you’re injured and feel like crap again. Then you’ll start wishing you weren’t in that position and how the hell did you even get in that position in the first place. Just the thought of not moving let alone winning the games makes you think about your life in a different perspective. The Move After days of thoughts, it’s time to do something about it. Get the best medication possible for pain relief, get a physiotherapy arranged, anything that gets you out of bed. Anything to be part of the real world again. But what about the time lost? How are you going to get that back as once it’s gone it’s gone. You can’t recover that, practically impossible! The Injury Claim Make an accident claim or an injury claim, both giving the same result. Choose the best no win no fee solicitor around and go for it. Then pour your feelings out! Sounds crazy even stupid for some people to mention their emotions to an accident solicitor let alone a stranger. It tends to be more difficult for men than women. A compensation solicitor knows how you feel, they see many of the likes day in day out. However, if you don’t mention your feelings including your injury then they can’t make the ‘ultimate winning personal injury claim’. The Settlement Compensation settlements cheques are based on various factors. It’s not just your physical ability that’s affected, so are your feelings. For example if you were the best center forward in your neighbourhood, everyone wants you on their team. You can’t play for anyone and after a while they don’t want you on their team. How would you feel? Hundreds of professional players around the world have to give up their careers cause of an accident injury. They also have to choose a different profession. It kills them psychologically! So what helps them to forget and move on? A compensation claim! Not exactly getting them back in the profession, but does compensate them to carry on with their lives. Think about it? It’s easy to win a personal injury claim and gain maximum results without the hassle, costs and confusion. Great Places To Propose Marriage

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

By Lesley-Ann Graham Proposals are meant to be a memorable occasion. Where you propose can be as significant as how you proposed. Women already expect the dropping on one knee and you asking her to marry you. Add some spice to the moment, find a great venue to pop the question. Paris is undoubtedly the city of lovers. It is an absolutely remarkable place. The Eiffel Tower with its wonderful view of the city is a wonderful place to ask for your lady’s hand. Another great place to go to for the big moment is at the top of a mountain. If you’re both into hiking and climbing, make the most of the breathtaking view. She’ll surely appreciate the view and the effort you’ve made to get her to the top of the world. In the restaurant you both love most is another great place to propose. After the great meal, ask her your question for dessert. Her saying yes will be enough dessert for you. Many men have proposed to their ladies at the place where they first met. It adds a touch of nostalgia to the moment. It takes the wind out of the argument that men never remember important things. The day you met is obviously significant to you. If you can time it with the anniversary of the day you met would be even better. How about proposing in the happiest place on earth? There are so many wonderful places to propose in Disneyland. How about in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle or by Snow White’s Well? There’s a waterfall if you’d like it more secluded and romantic. Or you can just propose just as you drop from the top of Splash Mountain’s biggest drop. In the moonlight, on the beach is another favorite. There’s something so elemental about being on the sand and listening to the pounding of the waves. Take a moonlit stroll and take a chance. It just seems like one of the most perfect places to ask her to spend her lifetime with you. Surprise her by proposing in front of her whole family in a clan gathering. You’d better really be sure she’ll say yes before trying this one because you’re putting your heart on display here. The great part, it also makes the celebration an instant engagement party if she says yes. In the privacy of your own home is always a good place. Set the mood and ask her the question. Don’t forget the ring or champagne for the celebration. No matter where you propose, don’t forget to make it special. You don’t need to have fireworks or an expensive meal. You can keep it simple and sincere and she’ll love that too. The important thing is to be true and make your proposal heart felt as you bring out the ring. She is sure to love the lengths you went to in order to make this moment unique, whether propose while floating in mid air in a giant balloon or just with your feet on the ground. Freedom of Religion

Monday, September 10th, 2007

By Lance Winslow True freedom of religion must include an individuals right to no religion. If we are to say that in our country we maintain freedom of religion than we must also respect those who do not wish to believe in any religion at all. Whereas our Constitutional Rights include these freedoms rarely in our country are Atheists really accepted in our communities. Recently I discussed this with a gentleman at a coffee shop and he was of no religion and whenever the subject came up, a religious person gave him dirty looks or an attitude of disgust. Several have told him that their religion did not allow them to talk with him or associate with him in anyway. In fact one lady had even told him in there is a verse in the Bible, which she quoted, but he did not remember; telling her she must not listen to him and she left his company. If one thinks about it a bit we have a real problem if society wishes to outcast Atheists and any Agnostic unwilling to discuss conversion. In the Christianity faith we are told to spread the word and convert such folks, however if they are not ready yet or do not wish to covert, rather than taking them on as a personal challenge, perhaps we might respect their views and leave them alone. After all they do have the same rights as us of Freedom of Religion or Freedom of NO religion. Recently I tried this out and when asked what my faith was as an experiment, I proclaimed; I am an Atheist and I was immediately met with as shocked look on the face of my newly found conversationalist who had in his hand a Bible with versus underlined. Wow; I thought, it is true, the actual atheist I talked to had told me of this problematic issue? Well then if we are so quick to tell others to have religious tolerance, yet we ourselves are have none for those who believe different or believe in none we are living in hypocrisy and that is wrong. After seeing the look of horror on the man with the Bible, he said let me ask you a question? I thought well surely friend. He said well if you do not believe in a higher power, then how do you remain a moral person? After this question I was shocked? I thought how arrogant that you would have to believe in his particular religion I think Baptist to be a moral person? After all are those of the Jewish Faith, Islam, Buddhist, Hindu somehow amoral? I told explained this concept to him and said that in fact I was moral than him for I did not judge a mans morality by his beliefs. Although I tried to explain this to him, he did not understand. I personally do not know many atheists, as there are not very many true atheists, but the ones I do know I think are completely trustworthy and even brilliant and I would trust them before most others I know who claim to be good Christian Folks. In fact as a percentage goes, I completely trust 40% of the atheists I know, would trust about 30% of the others and semi trust 20% and only 10% I do not trust. Yet when taking this to those who I know in the Christian Faith, there are only 25% I completely trust and the rest completely question. Have you looked into these percentages with those you know? If we in our country are going to preach religious tolerance and follow our religious doctrines shouldnt we dump the hypocrisy and live our own demands? Realising Dreams With Car Purchasing Loans

Sunday, September 9th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Steve_C_Clark]Steve C Clark Your eyes and heart are set upon a new car model. You keep on dreaming about the model. You badly need to set your hands on its wheels. But alas, you are financially unsound to meet the cost of your dream car. Hurrah! To you car purchase loans are there to make you realize your dreams. Car purchasing loans can both be secured and unsecured car loans. Under the secured car purchase loans, borrower is required to offer a collateral against the loan amount they seek. Collateral includes home or a property against your home. The collateral makes you a risk free borrower as it can always be liquidated in case of failure of repayment. The loan amount depends on equity that your collateral serves. The higher the equity, the more loan amount you can avail with lesser interest rate. Moreover it comes with easy repayment term and can range from 5-25 years. In case of unsecured car purchase loans, the borrowers do not require collateral. But since you do not serve a guarantee, the loan amount can be lesser with relatively higher interest rate. While going for car purchase loans, the borrowers credit score goes a long way in finding the right deal. A credit score of 620 and above is considered excellent. This clearly means you may not face hurdles in acquiring car purchase loans and the loan amount could be higher with lesser interest rate. But this does not mean that borrowers with bad credit can not avail car purchase loans. They are always welcome. Numerous lenders are always ready to provide them with financial assistance so that they can realize their dreams. Bad credit car purchase loans are always available. Before applying for a car purchase loan you should be sure to get the right lender. This is always possible on the net where you can get quotes from all finance companies and compare there terms and conditions according to your financial positions. This helps you to tailor down the loan suiting your needs. You should be cautious before setting down to a deal. You should look for any hidden fees and charges. Read the document carefully before signing it. You should demand clarifications if any term is not understood properly. Before applying for a car purchase loan you may need documents like banking history, proof of identity, photographs and signature verification from the bank and proof of residence. If you manage to get the right lender and can easily negotiate repayment, you can certainly realize your dream car. Dating Site Perfection?

Friday, September 7th, 2007

By Stephanie Constantina What would the perfect dating site be like? This is a question I began to give some thought to the other day. Here’s what I came up with. The perfect dating site would have, amongst other things — and in my personal reckoning — the following features: 1. A very large database of members, running into millions. The larger the database of single members, the better the chances of finding the ideal person — that’s logical, isn’t it? 2. The ability to easily search and find single people locally. It would be no good if I had to spend as long searching as I did finding, or if there were few or no singles in my local area. 3. Good photos of the members and plenty of information about each one. This is an ideal but of course in reality the members themselves provide their photos and write their own profiles, so this is not something within the dating site’s control. 4. A way to match me up with other singles automatically.Personally, I prefer to search the personal profiles, but there may be days when I would like to be matched to others automatically. There are sites that use each of these approaches. 5. A way to email other members anonymously and in which personal details are protected.Very important this, I wouldn’t want my personal details to be made available. 6. Vetting of each new member to exclude any undesirables, or married members if this is a singles site.Of course, this will involve me being vetted too; everybody would have to be. 7. Be completely free.Wouldn’t that be great? However, I am very well aware that dating sites are actually businesses, and all businesses exist to make a profit. So sites that claim to be completely free must be making their profits somehow (usually through advertising or persuading their members to purchase other services). This is a kind of dream list for the ideal dating site. Are there any real dating sites that match up? Well, not completely, though there are some that come pretty close. Where most fall down would be on points 5 and 6 above, so some care must be taken by the subscriber in these areas. You can find out about which dating sites may come closest to my ideal by clicking on the links below. For an opinion on the best dating sites go to: Online dating services advice. Lawn Furniture

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

By Mark Lambie If you love being outdoors, you should pick lawn furniture that you love! It should be more than practical and functional. It should add to the very experience of being outside. There are so many options in lawn furniture, and you are sure to find something to fit within your budget. Does your family host a lot of picnics? If so, theres no doubt a picnic table in your future. Picnic tables come in a lot of varieties ranging from plastic to cast iron. This is one piece of furniture that can truly fit into any budget. If the picnic table will be used predominantly by adults, a cheaper plastic variety might suit your needs. But if kids are planned guests, think about investing in something just a little more sturdy that can hold up to a flurry of activity that usually follows kids. If a picnic table and benches are not your style, dont despair. Look into other tables. Choose a heavy glass and concrete pedestal table. Mix and match chairs to get the lawn furniture look you want. Or buy a set. Your lawn furniture fashion options are endless! You can find lawn furniture at a number of stores ranging from your local discount or big box store to the woodworker who custom designs lawn furniture specifically to your liking. And dont forget the Internet as a source. You have a world of lawn furniture at your fingertips and can even shop from home while wearing your pajamas! No matter where you plan to buy your lawn furniture, there are a number of items you should check before making a purchase. First, if there happens to be a model on display, try it out. Sit in the chairs. Put pressure on the table top to see how sturdy it is. Does it tip easily? There is only one way to find out! If you buy a lawn furniture set that needs to be assembled, do an inventory of the contents of the box as soon as you open it. If you find that you are missing a part, call the store immediately and let them know you will be coming for either a replacement for the missing part or returning the set you have for a complete one. Once you get the complete set, follow the manufacturers directions for assembly. Speaking of assembly, if the thought frightens you, ask the sales clerk if the store offers an assembly service. You can expect to pay extra for the service, but if saving time means something to you, the assembly service is worth considering. Once you have constructed your lawn furniture, you are ready to start enjoying it. Maybe you already have the perfect place in mind for it. If not, just pretend your yard is a big room. Move your lawn furniture around to experiment with placement just like you would in your house. Once you find the spot, settle in. Youll be happy with your lawn furniture purchase for a long time. Profitable Marketing Programs (Part 1)

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

By Bobette Kyle Deciding whether a particular marketing program is profitable to your business is often more subjective than the accountants would have you believe. You should not only consider the direct revenue and costs associated with a marketing program, but you should also think about the long term impact on your business. The full benefits gained from a marketing program are not directly and immediately measurable. Many benefits happen over time. Advertising; brand building and awareness; Web site improvements; and other types of programs may be profitable in the long run but costly in the short term. Often, the best approach for these programs is to first set aside a budget, then spend your budget on the program(s) with the most potential for long term success. Investments in improvements — such as a redesign of your Web site — may seem unprofitable at first, but are nonetheless the right thing to do. Many of these programs are beneficial because they keep you from losing business to your competitors over time. For these types of projects, the correct question to ask is “What happens if I do this versus if I do not?” Know how much your business must grow over time to make the improvement worthwhile and compare this to your potential business growth. If the cost is not reasonable compared to the potential, then look for other solutions. Another reason the benefits of a marketing program may not be directly measurable is because new customers gained as a result of the program may, over time, buy from you more than once (i.e. have a lifetime value that is greater than the profit from a single purchase). Also, happy customers tend to refer additional customers by spreading the word about your goods and services. Both of these factors indirectly increase a marketing program’s overall profit. Making Assumptions Predicting profitability can be a series of “best guesses” based on assumptions. In fact, you could probably manipulate your assumptions to make a program as profitable (or unprofitable) as you wish. A more successful approach, however, is to try to legitimately forecast profit. Be as reasonable as you can with assumptions, and then decrease your expected revenue by 20% - 25%. Often, results (either costs or revenue) come in worse than reasonably expected for a variety of unforeseen reasons. Figuring Break Even Point For promotional programs, you can decide how much to spend on the program by figuring out your break even point. One way to do this - while also taking into account longer term profits - is by basing the break even analysis on the amount of profit you expect to earn from new customers gained through the promotion, both now and in the future. To figure the break even point in this way, you should know: 1) the programs expected response rate, 2) the programs expected conversion rate, and 3) the lifetime value of a new customer. Here, the response rate is defined as the percentage of those exposed to your program that you expect will take you up on your call to action. For the formulas in Part 2 of this article, express the response rate as a decimal (Examples: 1%=.01. One-half percent=.005) Conversion rate definition is the percentage of responders you expect to become customers. For the formulas in Part 2, express the conversion rate in decimal form (Examples: 10%=.1. 1%=.01. One-half percent=.005). The lifetime value of a new customer is the amount of dollar profit you will make from the customer over a certain time period. It is common to define lifetime as anywhere from 18 months to two years. Response and conversion rates can vary widely, depending upon how targeted your prospects are, how well your offer is written, and how involved the purchase decision is for your product. The type of program also has an impact on your response and conversion rates. To estimate these rates for your program, you can look to your past experience and/or ask the program vendor. You can also search on general marketing and research Web sites to find rules of thumb for your type of program. In all cases, document your assumptions. You will need them later to analyze program results. In Part 2 — http://www.websitemarketingplan.com/online/breakeven.htm — I will look at three ways to approach break even analysis, depending on how the marketing program is structured.
